NASA's Vision for Space Exploration
Following the retirement of the Space Shuttle fleet, expected by 2010, a newly developed spacecraft will transport astronauts to the International Space Station as well as to the Moon, which is expected to be the base for future interplanetary human space exploration. This endeavor will involve experts from a variety of fields including biologists, whose tasks will include for instance the study and development of countermeasures against the impact of space radiation and microgravity on humans, as well as the integration of organisms into future life support systems.
